GHAMMISH PREFECTORIAL & SRC ELECTIONS FOR 2016/2017 ACADEMIC YEAR (23RD , 24 FEB AND 12TH MARCH, 2016)

Every year, students elect a body of prefects from among a number of students pre-vetted by the school vetting committee Headed by Mr Nweggu Yahaya (Assistant Headmaster) on the basis of certain important guidelines. Each prefect is charged with running a specific department of school life e.g. dining hall, library, house, prep, dorm etc.
Prefectorial roles give the lucky students or elected students an all important leadership training. The prefectorial body is led by the School Prefect.

The Student’s Representative Council (SRC), is the mouthpiece of the general student body at theschool or local as well as regional front. Though the SRC is independent as regards the Prefectorial body, the two complement each other on matters concerning students. It is essentially an independent body itself.

The SRC representatives are elected from the boarding houses and classes (forms), as well as other specific groups like Day Students. Some SRC results (GENERAL SECRETARY-Boateng Mavis 256 vrs Amoako Gabriel 144, ORGANIZING SECRETARY-Nastain Abdul Razak Yes Votes 355
TREASURER-Abdul Karim Aisha Yes Votes 336
DAY REP-Sophia Dansoa Amoakoa 179 vrs Asomani Jennifer 227

The Prefect’s council together with the SRC , constitute a link between the school administration and the student body.

Mr. Anning Ibrahim has emerged winner of the Senoir Boys Prefect Position after securing 220 votes against his close challenger Mr.Shuaib Yahaya who secured 182 votes.
Anning’s victory margin put him ahead of Mr. Shuaib Yahaya as the Senior Boy’s prefect of the school with the latter being the Second Assistant. The first Assistant Boys prefect went to Shuaib Imam who stood unopposed and secured349 yes votes. The election which was keenly contested came off on, 24th February, 2016.
The election became necessary as the Mr Frimpong Iddrisu led administration had successfully completed their 1-year stipulated leadership mandate(2015/2016) for GHAMMISH.
Student participation in the election was impressive, with majority voters from form 1s and 2s turning up to cast their votes.
A total of about Thirty five (35) candidates contested for various positions including head prefects(Boys & Girls),Prep, library prefect, Works, Dining Hall, House Prefects, SRC positions and many more after going through the rigorous mills of vetting and surmounting the tedious challenge of Prefect Manifestos and Debate at the expense of their academic work.
After result collation and tallying at the end of voting, Miss Suleman Hassan (278 votes) defeated Olagah Amamatu (129 votes) for the Senoir Girls Prefect and Mavis Boateng who stood unopposed for the Assistant Girls Prefect won by 303 yes votes and also Mavis secured another landslide victory of 256 votes over her challenger Amoako Gabriel 144 votes for SRC General Secretary.
History has it that, this was the first time GHAMMISH elected many girls into SRC leadership positions.
Per the school constitution, Anning Ibrahim and Hassana Suleman automatically assumes the office of the President of the Students Representative Council (SRC) and Vice President respectively. Mavis Boateng becomes the General Secretary after defeating Gabriel Amoako.
Meanwhile, rumors has it that the vetting process for the prefects was not fair and thus was geared towards academic and 'good behavior' but the SRC Patron and the vetting committee of the school rubbished the rumour, insisting all was done in all sincerity and impartiality.
Let’s all pray and support the newly elected prefects and SRC leaders inducted to carry out their mandate with all humility and diligence.
Long Live GHAMMISH, Long Live SRC, Long Live Ghana
